World's Largest Dungeon, Part Fünf

Did anyone post a log of Session 4? Anyway...

Yesterday, the intrepid explorers

Lenny, the Human Paladin (londo)
Fedra, the Human Barbarella (juldea)
Happy, the Human Spiked-Chain Monkey (who disappeared in a puff of illogic) (thatjoe)
Robin, the Halfling "Acquirer" (kestrel404)
Wynn, the Human Cleric of Kord (ruggrat)
Gronnash, the Halfling Bardbarian (deceased When Fiendish Owlbears Attack) (jediseth)
Airc, the Half-Orc Ranger (pacingincircles)
Fortinbras, the Human Cleric of De Fault (evan712)
Fred, the Human Monk (nightskyre)
Gaffney, Halfling Paladin, and his trusted steed Waldo (etherial)

mapped out the remaining nasal passages of the World's Largest Dungeon under the cruel will of Dungeonmaster shogunhb. Or at least, the Halflings did. Apparently everyone else got dysentery or something, and we got bored, so Gronnash, Robin, and Gaffney, along with his trusted steed Waldo, wandered around, trying to clear out some of the parts of the dungeon we had left unexplored. A good time was had by all.

During our travels, we found a room where some Darkmantles were being tortured by a glowing glass orb that sent some kind of stunning spell whenever someone messed with the Evil Dagger of Venom it protected. We had a lot of fun throwing rocks at the Darkmantles that were prone and twitching from its magics.

We also found a room with a deliciously clever trap which cast Bind Person and then immediately cast Lightning Bolt whenever you went through the doorway. Hard to dodge a lightning bolt when your immobile, eh? Unfortunately, we didn't know about the Lightning Bolt until we sent Waldo through, who was immune to the Bind Person, but nearly killed by the Lightning Bolt. Inside the foggy room were manacles and chains, as well as

Oryx, the Human Cleric of Some Magicky God (thatjoe).

Robin was the only one brave enough to venture into the room (Gaffney had been hit by the same Lightning Bolt that hit Waldo), so he tested Oryx's Goodness by having him heal the dog. With Oryx freed, the party continued to wander a little more until we found a nest of Lizard Folk. We parleyed with the Chieftain of the Serpent Clan, and agreed to trade some of the Kobold corpses we had created in exchange for some of their knowledge of the Dungeon. We rested the night, and then chose to brave the dangers of the Owlbear (whose Fiendishness was conveniently not mentioned).

The Owlbear charged us. Robin was able to scale the wall, get out of its way, and get behind it. Gronnash was not so lucky. The Owlbear swiped at him, held him in its mighty paws, and then tore him to pieces by the second round. Oryx, the Serpent Clan Chieftain, and the Serpent Clan Vizier provided support while Gaffney charged the Owlbear with his lance and Robin stabbed at its fleshy underbelly. After his second charge, Gaffney was nabbed by the Owlbear, facing near certain Death when Waldo and the rest of the party threw in their all and brought the beast down.

Gaffney and Robin are now Fourth Level. The rest of the party (except for Oryx but including Waldo) is Third Level.

Lessons learned include:
HalfAll-Halfling Parties are cute and surprisingly effective.
•Lizardfolk do respect the rules of Parley.
•Evil Magic Items aren't so Evil that you can't use them, unless they are.
•No one (well, nearly no one) can survive two rounds with a Fiendish Owlbear.
and lastly

•If the Lizardfolk want to eat a party member's corpse, come up with a good excuse and let them.

World's Largest Dungeon

60 out of 840 pages completed. At the current rate, it will take 21 years to complete the Dungeon. shogunhb, how many rooms did you say there were total? I'd like to compare page completion vs. room completion.
