proceeded gaily forward through the soft palate of the World's Largest Dungeon under the cruel will of Dungeonmaster shogunhb. We faced trials, tribble-ations, spelling contests, and, of course, monsters. A good time was had by all.
Robin, finally having learned Evasion, felt compelled to go back and test himself against the Fireball Room. He sprinted down the hallway in question only to find a uselessly empty room on the far side. Then, with our increasingly unresponsive Serpent Clan guides, we proceeded through the "magical" section of their neighborhood. While examining a magical trap, Robin accidentally touched it and was teleported into another realm. The return teleport would not send anything evil through, and he suffocated before he realized that his evil dagger was keeping him from returning to rooms that had breathable air in them.
Desperate to find some way to rescue Robin, but being completely terrified of the glowing disappeary thing, we searched about for clues, accidentally finding
Kelvin, Human Cleric of Fharlanghn(ddrpolaris)
who was also of no use. Eventually, we decided to go beseech the good Orc King we had met earlier. We had found a way for him to possibly die nobly, and possibly get our friend back. With much grumbling and not wanting to stand, let alone walk, we got him to go investigate the magical trap. He was able to send Robin's body back to us before he suffered the same fate.
Lacking a Rogue, we alternated between the "high level" Paladin and the Barbarian for opening doors. We discovered a room behind a sprung garbage disposalesque trap that, when one Laid Hands upon it, openend to a room that cleansed with purifying flame. Heaven for Paladins.
Venturing further south, we made our way to the Darkmantle Room we had fled back in Part Deux (or maybe Три). Thinking that we'd get the drop on them now that we'd leveled, we were a little too careless getting into a fight with them. We had gotten spread out into a line, which meant that we couldn't effectively gang up on the Darkmantles.
Even though he was standing right next to the Cleric, Lenny couldn't stay on his feet, and was brought down by the Darkmantles he had been fighting. Fred soon followed. By this time,
Black Bart, the Half-Orc Fighter (dirkcjelli)
had heard the commotion and was standing outside the Fiendish Dire Darkness picking off escaping Darkmantles. Gaffney dragged one out to be killed by Bart, then headed back in to mop up the crumbling West flank. Desperate to keep his friends alive, Gaffney brought the two fallen back to the Pillar of Celestial Flame, where Lenny was revitalized by its Lawful Good energies, but Fred was unable to be saved.
Resting up for the night, our heroes purified several days worth of rations and sallied forth in the morning, finding a room with a thunderstorm in it and a room with little glowing balls that slowly coalesced into a Fiendish Owlbear chasing
Luca, the Half-Elven Bard (nightskyre).
Fortunately, we had both the time and the location to set up an effective trap for the Owlbear featuring several Reach weapons. The Owlbear couldn't get through the doorway, which prevented Gaffney from using his Ride-By-Attack. The Owlbear grabbed him, and things were looking pretty grim for The Last Halfling, but Kelvin was able to slip into the melee and reach him with a Healing Spell to stave off the imminent disembowelment. The others maintained a stabbing frenzy, causing the Owlbear to retreat with its Small Sized Meal, but a well placed blow from the Raging Fedra, Sword enemy to all Evil Outsiders, decapitated the beast.
Lessons learned include:
•Evil powerful enough to give you a headache with its mere presence is probably too evil for you to take down.
•A Celestial Teleportation Device will turn 1 Evil Dagger into 3 Silver Daggers.
•"loose morals" and "Intelligence 6" can sometimes look awfully similar.
•Any plan that includes being brought back from the dead is a bad plan.
•Alien worldviews provide endless hours of roleplay opportunities.
•You don't need a Rogue as long as you have a lot of hit points.
•You can trust greed, but only so far.
•Do not taunt Happy Fun Trap.
